IFIP60 Worldwide, over 1.35 million people lose their lives each year to roadway traffic accidents. Autonomous vehicles have the potential to drastically reduce this carnage by leveraging breakthrough advancements in computational power, algorithms and sensing technologies.
However, there is a significant hurdle: a lack of governance by national regulatory bodies to guide dependable and secure design, construction and operation of autonomous vehicles.
This panel of global experts, organized by the leaders of a WG10.4 project on this subject, will discuss information processing advancements that are imperative to the realization of highly dependable and secure road vehicles. In addition to discussing technical aspects of such advancements, they will also debate related societal and ethical issues.
